Monthly Report - April 2008

Current number of students/young adults being served by the ministry – 401
Activities and Fellowships
- Laser Tag All-Nighter held April 4th with 27 students participating
- Held Night at City Museum April 11th with 22 students attending
- Annual End Of The Year Banquet held April 26th with 46 students in attendance
Discipleship/Bible Studies
- Four Bible studies/discipleship groups were completed in April
- Daily devotionals are currently being sent to 86 students and others receiving them via e-mail,
Facebook or the BSM website
- Director provided copy of books, “Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts” and “The Most
Important Year In A Man’s/Woman’s Life” to 2 recently engaged BSM couples.
- Director provided a NIV Life Application study Bible to a student who requested one
Missions / Community Service
- 18 students assisted Arms of Love Pregnancy Resource Center in various service projects April
20 – students assisted with placement of ceiling insulation, moving various furniture items
including two examination tables, folding and matching children’s clothing and cleaning
out/organizing three sheds filled with various materials.
- Students continued to serve as volunteers at the Community of Hope Center in Alton
- Students continued leading bi-monthly Sunday morning worship services at Rosewood Nursing
Home in Edwardsville
Outreach
- Conducted “free waffles” outreach effort April 17-18 as part of SIUE’s Spring Fling Festival –
served more 500 people – each person served also received a card with information on either
our “trueanswers.org” website or a card with the plan of salvation and contact information for the
BSM
- Received 44 “hits” on the “myeverystudent” (www.trueanswers.org) network, a web-based
evangelism/discipleship tool, in April with 3 decisions to accept Christ being recorded and 1 e-
mail question being received
- Our “Free Books” Ministry continued in April with 84 of our books (including 18 Bibles) being
distributed through our Cougar Village Commons location, the Thursday Night Praise and web
site.
- Continued maintenance of BSM outreach center as needed
Praise And Worship
- Held four Thursday Night Praise Services in April – average attendance 86 - Speakers included
Pastor Doug Munton from FBC O’Fallon, BSM alum Tim Bauersachs, Pastor Ken Griffin from
Calvary BC (Alton) and student Jon Kinworthy. Our annual graduates night is scheduled for May 8
PrayerWorks
- Prayer requests collected at both the Thursday Night Praise and through the web site are placed
on the BSM website on a weekly basis for easy student access
- Summer prayer dinners to begin May 22
Publicity and Promotion
- Updated LiveAbove.com website, part of the Youth Transition Network, to display specific
information about the BSM at SIUE – photos added and text updated on home page, added
information to “what we are about”, ”testimonials”, “calendar” and “contact” pages
- Worked with Calvary Baptist Church – Alton on the promotion of their new “Eikon” Friday night
collegiate worship service
- The BSM website homepage received 155 “hits” on our homepage with a total number of 1,061
website page views in April – updates were made to the following pages: calendar and weekly
update (updated each week), devotional (daily), activities, missions (including NAMB and IMB
pages), prayer list, bulletin board
- Other Ongoing Weekly Updates - weekly e-mail with calendar of events and announcements sent
to all students, local alumni and area churches as well as posted on web site and Facebook
Miscellaneous Activity
- Visited Sunday morning worship services at First Baptist Church of Maryville (April 6), Holiday
Shores Baptist Church (April 13), First Baptist Church of Pinckneyville (April 20), Temple Baptist
Church (April 27)
- Addressed and sent birthday cards to all students and alumni with birthdays in April (53)
- Prepared monthly report for Illinois Baptist State Association, Gateway Baptist Association,
Calvary Baptist Church Edwardsville, Whitelaw Avenue Baptist Church and First Baptist Church
of Pinckneyville
- Met with 4 pastors/ministers regarding short term needs of the ministry with relation to Gateway
Baptist Association
- Began work on securing summer addresses on all returning BSM students – project to be
completed in May
- Made presentation regarding collegiate ministries to senior high school class at FBC Maryville
- Attended ordination service of BSM alumni Tim Bauersachs at FBC Pinckneyville –also served as
part of the questioning group
- Began work on securing BSM officers for 2008-2009
